"Sweet Home 11" - Texan Motel Sign Painting Complete
Sweet Home 11 - 20 x 20 - acrylic on old map
SOLD
I finished up my newest painting yesterday. It is a black painting of the Texan Motel sign in Raton, New Mexico. It is from a photograph I took this summer on our way back to Texas from Colorado. I painted it on a 1960's Texas road map. The title of the painting is "Sweet Home 11". This is a Texas town and highway mile number that I didn't paint over on the center post of the sign. Sometimes the ideas for titles of my paintings just pop out at me. Once I saw that on the post, I knew I couldn't paint over it and that it would be the title of the painting. The painting measures 20 x 20 and is on gallery wrapped canvas with a 1.5" edge. I'm planning on doing a few more pieces in this style with some of my sign pictures that I have taken.

It will be my entry for the Frisco ISD employee show. The show is put on by the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco of which I'm a member. I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Junky Trinkets Turns One!

Who would have thought we would have made it this far. One year ago, on December 10th, 2008 the Junky Trinkets blog was born. This has been a great experience and fun to do. I've met so many interesting and creative people along the way. I look forward to keeping Junky Trinkets alive for another year.....stay tuned. Below is my first post ever.....how boring...what a rookie!
"Marfa Sky"
Well I thought I'd kick this blog off with one of my favorite recent paintings. I actually hated the first sky that I put in, so after about 2 years I used my artistic license and changed it. Now I am at peace with myself. It is a 24" x 24" acrylic on canvas. I'm really happy with how the colors came out.

In current news: I'm working on some new paintings but can't share them with y'all since they are gifts. I'll post pictures after Christmas. I am also running the White Rock Marathon relay on Sunday morning. My leg is 5 miles (mile 15-20 on the east side White Rock Lake in Dallas) I've never run 5 miles but I've been training at 4 for weeks now. Wish me luck!

Frisco - Art in the Atrium Show
Frisco City Hall and Library

Well, I just received the news yesterday that four of my paintings were selected for the Art in the Atrium Show in the Frisco City Hall / Library Complex. This show will run through next August. I am very excited about the opportunity to have my paintings on display for the public to see for this year long show. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, November 11th from 7-9 PM. If you are in the Dallas area, I'd love to have you stop by and say hi. Above are the works that were chosen. They should look familiar if you've been following a while. I'll pass along more info as we get closer. I'm still waiting on my Holga negatives/CD to arrive....hopefully this week. I can't wait!

"Steal the Sideshow" - Del Mar Theater - Santa Cruz
Steal the SideshowMy new painting, Steal The Sideshow is now finished....finally. I've been piddling with it for months.....or more like letting it sit around for months. The painting is from a photograph I took two years ago in Santa Cruz, California of the Del Mar Theater sign. I cropped it down to just two letters, the "M" and the "A" of the word MAR. The painting is acrylic on a 12" x 12" gallery wrapped canvas with an 1.5" edge. Now on to the next painting that has been sitting around.

Work In Progress - Water Tower #2

I added a few touches to the water tower painting. I'm gonna look at it a while and make any adjustments I feel necessary in the coming days, and then call it done. Overall, I'm happy with it. I really like the red peeking through in the tower legs. I may play with the clouds some to give it a little more depth.....I'm definitely still trying to find my own style in these recent paintings, but it's hard for me to cut loose from my technical realistic ways.
