A few weeks ago Frisco had the ArtSeen tour around town.  It is basically a couple of days where artists open up their studios and show off works in progress and an inside look at their work spaces.  Some of the highlights were Misty Oliver-Foster's studio.  She is a good friend and one of my favorite local artists.   She has a really cool converted garage studio.  I was also able to pick up a new piece of artwork for our home from another friend, T. Scott Stromberg.  It is titled "Sangre de Christo"  It has a cool New Mexico vibe! We love it!

Frisco Art In The Atrium Opening Reception




Last night we had the opening reception for the Frisco Art In the Atrium show held at the George A. Purefoy building in Frisco, Texas.  It was a great evening overall.  This year's show is one of the best yet.  The local talent is outstanding. There are over 70 pieces in this year's show covering five floors in the atrium of the city hall building.  I was pretty happy with the location of my artwork....it is on the first floor right next to public library entrance.  It is probably the best spot in the house for traffic. I'm hoping my artwork will become a big hit with all the stay at home moms that drag their kids to the library every day! Ha!  The show will run through August.  I even got a shout out from the school district website.

Artseen Artist Studio Tour - Highlights and Pictures

What a great weekend!  We had a great turnout on Saturday and Sunday for the inaugural Artseen Frisco Artists Studio Tour.  I was housed at the Heritage Exteriors landscaping office which happens to be in an older home off of Main Street. Thanks to Bob and Deb for allowing me to hang out all weekend!  It had a great shady patio and the studio area seemed like it was meant for my work.  It had that comfortable older feel which ties in perfectly with my style. I brought in a few props from my own studio to give it that homey feel.....you know - rusty license plates, gas station numbers, old beer cans.  The best part was that it already had track lighting!  It worked out great.  I had pretty steady traffic on both days.  Thanks to all my friends that came out to support the art tour, it really means a lot to me. We'll be doing it again next year for sure.  I also enjoyed visiting with all the other folks that dropped by to check things out.  Hopefully some of them will become fans.  I have tons of new art that I will be sharing soon and posting in my Etsy shop. Frisco Arts In the Square Festival 2011

This last weekend was Frisco Square's 2nd annual Arts In The Square art festival.  I volunteered both days and had a great time visiting with all the artists and enjoying the weather.  Some of my favorites were:

Jerry Brem - North Carolina artist that uses bold colors on charcoal drawings.

David Canavesio - Oklahoma painter, also had some letter paintings that were a hot item.

D.R. Jones - Texas painter - bright colors with a southwestern feel.

Melissa Winton -Frisco artist - one of my friends from the VAGF.

My friend and financial blogger, PT Money also has a little article about buying original art.  Make sure and read the article here and comment about you experiences with buying original art.

I also started a new painting last night.  I'll post pics soon!

I received word a few weeks ago that a few of my paintings were selected for this year's Frisco Art In The Atrium Show.  I'm really excited to be a part of the show again.  Last year was my first year to enter and it is really a great opportunity for local artists to showcase their work.  The opening reception is Wednesday, November 10th from 7-9 PM at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center - City Hall and Public Library in Frisco Square. I would love for all of my Frisco/Dallas friends to stop by and say hey.  There is going to be a great collection of local artwork in the show.  It should be good! The show will run through August of 2011.  Come check it out!

Frisco Art - "Her Sleepy Town" - Giclee Prints

I have been getting a lot of good feedback over the last year on my mixed media painting - Her Sleepy Town.  It was piece that I did for the 2009 Art in the Atrium show in the Frisco City Hall and Library complex.  I was kind of hoping that the city would purchase it for their permanent collection....but I never heard anything from them.  I guess having it displayed on the Frisco Discovery Center makes up for it.  A few weeks ago I decided to have some giclee prints run.  They turned out great!  I purposely sized them to fit perfectly in a large 20 x 20 IKEA Ribba frame.  I'll put them in the Etsy shop in the coming days.  Maybe some locals might like a little inexpensive piece of Frisco inspired art!

Frisco Discovery Center - My Painting On The Panel Display!

Her Sleepy Town

I found out Friday night that my painting, "Her Sleepy Town" was selected to be part of a collage of local artwork that is on permanent display at the brand new Frisco Discovery Center.  I'm very excited about this opportunity!  The Frisco Discovery Center is a multi-use facility that includes a children's interactive science museum, a black box theater, and an art gallery.  They are having a grand opening art show on October 2nd where 100's of artists will have booths set up in the back warehouse.  If you are in town, you should stop by!

Holga Photos in a Show


As a member of the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco, we are able to participate in a couple of member show throughout the year. They usually limit us to 2 pieces so that we can have multiple people participate. For this spring show, I decided to put in a few of my Holga photos instead of my paintings....you know, to show some diversity....or maybe just because I don't have any new paintings ready. I went to the thrift store on Saturday morning and picked up this nice 14 x 14 square frame with a 6 inch opening in the mat. It was perfect! I went home and painted it black and strung up a wire on the back. I think it looks pretty good for $7. That's low overhead. The show will have an opening reception from 6-8 on Saturday, March 6th at the Frisco Arts Center on Main St. I won't be able to make that night, but stop by and check out the show if you get a chance. The gallery will be open starting at noon.

Frisco Grain Elevator - Holga Style




The weather has been awful here in Dallas for weeks. I have been unable to get out and shoot the Holga. I'm halfway through a roll and need to finish it out. I've got a set of color filters now that I'm wanting to try out. Here's a couple of old Holga pics of the local grain elevator I took a few months back. I need some good weather and sunlight!

Small Works Show


I am participating in a small works show with about 12 other artists at the Frisco Arts Center in downtown Frisco. The show will run through December 9th. There is an opening reception this Saturday evening from 6-8. The gallery will also be open the day of the Frisco Community Parade - Saturday November, 14th from 10-12. Come by and check it out! Happy Halloween - 5K Day


Today was the race I have been semi training for over the last few months. The recent early morning storms and wind have put a damper on my training consistency over the last 3 weeks. Anyway, I ran the Gary Burns Fun Run here in Frisco this morning. It is a huge race with tons of participants. The weather was beautiful and crisp. Perfect running weather! I set a goal of running it under 26 minutes. Mission accomplished! My time: 25:57. I even did it wearing the ridiculous outfit above. The wig got a little hot towards the end. There were many people that didn't quite know what to think of me. Perfect! I was playing head games to psyche them out. I had a great time. My next race is December 13th, when I run a five mile leg on a relay team in the Dallas White Rock Marathon. I've never run more than 3.5 miles. This should be interesting.
PS. The fu manchu was real. The star hand tat...sharpie art. Oh, and I placed 2nd in the jean shorts division. My friend Seth beat me by a couple of minutes.

Frisco Arts Festival


The first annual Frisco Arts Festival starts this evening and runs through Sunday afternoon. I'll be at the VIP reception this evening, working the VAGF tent tomorrow from 7-10 PM , and I'll be a volunteer greeter on Sunday morning from 9:30-1:30. I decided not to participate in this year's show simply because I don't really have a complete body of work for a show of this size. I did donate the above painting, Steal the Sideshow to the Visual Arts guild of Frisco for sale. We will split the profit if it sells. The weather is supposed to be great! It should be a busy but fun weekend!

Going back to work this week has really cramped my blogging style. Here is the new painting as of Friday evening. All it needs is a few small touch ups, some weathering, and a varnish coat. By the way all is right in my world as of today......Texas high school football has officially begun. Go out and support your local teams!

Where it's at....


I know you may be getting tired of looking at the progress of this one, but I don't have too much else going on right now. I'll be starting back to work on Monday......summer of JEB officially over. Oh well, sometimes I find I have even more time during the school year to work on mini projects and get ideas for artwork. I am always inspired by my students! As for the painting. I was thinking that I was going to be finished when I got to this point, but I am now thinking that I need to paint in the remaining rings to enhance the shape of the water tower. I'm also throwing around the idea of another transfer, oil pastels, stencils, or running paint. I don't want to over work it though. Oh the decisions.

New Painting - Frisco Water Tower


Wow the 201st post! Who said Junky Trinkets wouldn't make it past 50 posts? Above is my background for my new painting I am working on. I am going to incorporate a lot of the background into the design of the painting. I have the silhouette of the Frisco water tower drawn in and will probably leave it open to the background. I've got some creative ideas planned for the paint around the tower. I'm kind of going to be loosening up a little and try some new things. I have really been inspired by some paintings I saw in the galleries in New York City. I'm very excited about the possibilities for this painting. I'll keep you posted on the progress.


I'll be running a 5K in the morning and I'm looking to beat my time of 27:58 which I ran in my last 5K back in March. I'm feeling good about it, so we will see.

I added a little oil pastel to highlight and darken some select areas. I think I'm about finished. I'm going to let it sit a while and revisit it next week with a clear head. I can't wait to take some pics in NYC. I'll post about the trip when I get back next week.

Painting Update #2


I added the sky and painted in the grain silo yesterday. I'm happy with it so far , but I'm not sure if it is living up to the vision I had before I started. Sometimes that happens in the art world. It did give me a few ideas for the next one I start.....so that's a good thing. I'm gonna dabble a little more and see if I can't spruce this one up some. I am very happy with the underpainting on the silo...I like that effect.
