Iwo Jima Map

Sixty five years ago today the battle of Iwo Jima began. My grandfather, Edward Joseph Matulich II was a marine and fought there. A few months ago my dad gave me a map that my grandfather had brought back with him from his tour in the Pacific. My dad just discovered it after going through some of my grandmother's possessions. It is a hand drawn Japanese map of Iwo Jima on rice paper. I had it framed last weekend and I keep it locked up in the safe when it's not on display. I am very proud to have this historical piece of memorabilia in my possession.....it is very special to me. Tell a veteran thanks!

  1. Hey, Jeb. That is a cool piece of history. Our friend who watches our dog when we travel to art shows (read--good friend)--anyway, his dad was at Iwo Jima--and is still living in Los Alamos. I'm guessing Mr Hudson and your grampa knew each other. Small world, huh?

  3. What an incredible keepsake and piece of history that actually belonged to someone in your family. I'd be proud of it, too.

  4. Very nice!
Unfortunately, few of the vets from that battle are still with us... They are fading fast.

But yes, I'm thankful for all of those who worked their way across the Pacific so that we can live the way we do today.
